Find Your Jamestown Ancestors

Jamestown was burned when Governor Berkeley sent his troops to capture Nathaniel Bacon and hang the rebels, Jamestown burned down. Actually, Nathaniel Bacon took matters into his own hands when the Royal Governor refused to send his army after the marauding Indians in the region who were harassing settlers. Instead of being a hero, he was accounted as a traitor and the governor sent his troops after the rebels instead. Bacon was ill and soon died, however, most of the rebels were hanged. Afterward, the unpopular Royal Governor Berkeley returned to England.
Even though Jamestown was rebuilt, the records were lost. Thus, all affairs of the colony went to Williamsburg (York County) where you might find some information. The first will book begins in 1633. That is within a comfortable range of discovering some deaths for some of the first settlers to Jamestown.
